A new granny flat can be built without consent if it is:

Design & Size Requirements

  • Single‑storey

  • Standalone building

  • Maximum 70 m²

  • Simple design

  • Meets the Building Code

Compliance Requirements

  • All exemption conditions met

  • Work done or supervised by licensed building professionals

  • Meets minimum boundary setbacks
